Classification and Staging of Lymphedema

  • Chapter
Lymphedema

Abstract

Although there have been numerous international attempts to classify and stage lymphedema, there is no single method that provides a comprehensive view of the disease that defines its etiopathophysiology or describes the significant overlap between the recorded stages. Not only is the process of classification and staging deficient, it is confusing to many physicians because the definitions and terminology differ widely.
