Abstract
Scientific journals have been at the heart of medical technological advancements and remain an integral role in distributing information. The path of discovery in many of the commonly used technologies has really been quite interesting. Advancements in laparoscopy have been astonishing since the first clinical laparoscopic nephrectomy in 1991 by Clayman et al. Observing the application of laparoscopy to new and innovative ways is fascinating with tangents such as robotics, laparoscopic-augmented reality images, and natural orifice surgery. This chapter walks you through the scientific journals’ progressive description of these old and new technologies from case reporting to randomized controlled trials to illustrate the important role they play in disseminating information.
