Abstract
Progress in the North American markets, particularly in the US, moved much slower for AO than it did in Europe. The adoption of the AO philosophy had usually occurred through contacts in the medical community, in addition to the recruiting of eager surgeons committed to the new technique. The entire US market and Canada had been allocated to Straumann, as part of the Olten agreement, but if the AO methodology were not adopted by a sufficient number of surgeons, sales of implants would be very slow.
