Abstract
This chapter summarizes the basic equations of compressible fluid flow. The complete time-dependent three-dimensional continuity and momentum equations are presented, including the constitutive equation of Newtonian fluids. The time-dependent Bernoulli equation for both compressible rotational and irrotational flows are discussed. The chapter presents the evolution equation of the circulation, where conditions for generation of vorticity and the necessary conditions for an irrotational flow to stay irrotational are discussed. One-dimensional mass, momentum, and energy equation are then presented.
