Abstract
This chapter reveals the hidden history of Latin American agency in the genesis of many of the foundational concepts of contemporary international law and customary interstate conduct. Additional to mainstays like uti possidetis juris and non-intervention in the internal affairs of states is the origin of the public international or “multilateral development bank” (MDB) in the Inter-American Bank of 1939 (whic arguably may be traced back to 1844 in Argentina). Latin Americans, however, did not merely think up concepts; they were “present at the creation” of the Bretton Woods institutions in the 1940s, deeply involved in the shaping of their competences.
