Abstract
The usual instrumental methods on architectural surveys offer accuracy and velocity. Nevertheless, these techniques are not able to reach hidden or out-of-sight places. Although sometimes invisible, the built history and the architectural heritage continue existing. The use of non-destructive techniques is still preferred, from our point of view, in order to face a new phase of documentation of the hidden heritage. The thermal imaging cameras and the ground penetrating radar GPR are efficiently being used in this way, allowing to discover invisible layers and, by means of the scientific interpretation of its verifiable physic properties, can be graphically expressed as known materials or empty spaces. Based on previous studies in Portugal and Alcantara, the use of GPR methodology was planned in Guadalupe and Cáceres, in two iconic heritage collections, inside an increasing day-by-day dissemination dynamic. The use of this kind of technology has allowed us to know not only the limits of the system but also the good of its usage, in order to face with solvency future urban works more clearly than in the past. In conclusion, we can say that heritage can be drawn without being directly seen.
