Abstract

We have been talking about renewable energy in the US for decades. Replacing fossil fuels. Where are we right now? How much progress have we made?

As of 2019, nearly two-thirds of the US electric grid is powered by natural gas, coal, and oil. Wind and solar contribute just 9%. If wind and solar are to grow up to become energy titans, the time is ripe for their growth spurts. Other alternatives assessed here include nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, hydropower, geothermal, concentrated solar power, marine hydro-kinetic (e.g., wave, tidal), and biomass.
