Abstract

Physiatrists and rehabilitation services offer critical skills and perspectives on the care of seniors though accessing optimal services can be challenging. Akin to the value of “a geriatric medicine framework,” a rehabilitation perspective can inform all medical specialties on effective clinical approaches to optimize function.

This chapter will address these advances in a format designed to explore several critical questions:

  • Geriatric Rehabilitation: How Is It Different and Why Is It Effective?

  • Promoting Function Through Rehabilitation

  • The Byzantine World of Accessing Rehabilitation Services

  • Historical Convergences: PM&R and Geriatric Medicine

  • Frailty, Geriatric Syndromes, and Prehabilitation

  • COVID 19: Rehabilitation Approaches to Acute and Chronic Issues
