Children’s Reality Understanding of Magic Show in the Video

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to explore children’s understanding of whether a magic show that they saw in a video depicted reality. Moreover, the research aimed to explore the difference between 5-year-old children and adults in judging the reality of the magic show. The results showed that the children’s understanding of the reality of the magic show was similar to that of adults, but there was a significant difference in the justifications given by the children and the adults for their levels of belief. The children mainly used redundant justifications, while the adults provided factual justifications. More research could further explore the neuro mechanism underlying children’s understanding of reality. This is of great value to deal with the issue of safety when children interact with the media.
