Abstract

Mentally Challenged Youth are vulnerable groups among the disabled. Due to the weakening of their cerebral function or language barriers, Mentally Challenged Youth are usually lack of excellent survival skills or professional skills in the society. Consequently, they are prone to exist as a socially disadvantaged group. Based on the characteristics of such people group, this paper carries out a practical teaching research on the product design system, hoping to provide them with assistance in terms of supported employment. In this project, we introduce the public welfare design projects and processes into the design courses and teaching programs by means of corresponding transformation, with a view to cultivating students’ thinking mode featuring the macroscopic design. It has been regarded as a brand-new attempt in the exploration of how to enable practical teaching to move towards a public welfare project.
