Abstract
In this Chapter, I present the conclusions of this PhD thesis, which include our current understanding of the gas scaling relations in galaxies and their evolution, the theoretical framework in which we understand the dramatically different evolution of the global star formation rate and atomic hydrogen densities, and the relation between the outflow rates and velocities with the gas surface density in galaxies.
