Abstract

A comprehensive study of wave climate and coastal processes during different seasons is required to delineate the factors responsible for the shoreline changes and to identify the locations that need protection. Numerical model is used as an effective tool for studying the nearshore wave climate and coastal processes. The model studies have been carried out using MIKE21 modelling system developed by the Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI). The salient aspects in the model set up and the results of the simulations including some of the recommendations to minimise the coastal impact on Kavaratti in the Lakshadweep group of islands are presented in this chapter. The results of the modelling studies provide vital information for efficient formulation of disaster mitigation and management measures for protecting the islands.
