Abstract

This work describes the changes by segmented magnetic resonance imaging of rhesus monkey in a model with a spinal cord injury induced by transection (SCI). The difference between the preservation of nervous tissue and ingrowth tissue was observed in the SCI of two rhesus monkeys: one with SCI and another with the same model of injury plus a PPy/I polymer synthesized by plasma and implanted on spinal cord of the monkey. The study gives a description of the evolution of SCI. In the implanted Monkey a greater preservation of the histoarchitecture surrounding a lesion area was observed, while in the monkey not implemented observed the gradual increase in the separation of the cephalic and caudal regions of the epicentre of the lesion, formation of post-traumatic syringomyelia is also emphasized. The implant of polypyrrole doped with iodine showed contribute also to nonhuman primates, in the histoarchitecture conservation in the area of the SCI that had been implemented after a model of SCI, turn promotes tissue growth through it.
