Insights on Perceived Importance of Information Sources for Vacation Decisions among the Elderly in the United States

Abstract

The perceived importance of ten sources of information, including internal and external sources, on vacation trip destination decisions of 94 elderly and 88 middle aged group members was investigated. Data for this study were collected by self-administered questionnaires distributed at the regular meetings of the organizations. Family, experience, and travel agents were the three information sources most often rated as important by both samples, although the elderly perceived all three sources to be less important than the middle aged. Implications of the results are presented.
