Abstract

Oesophageal and gastric malignancy are considered together in the RCR-RCP guidelines for FDG-PET/CT imaging in the UK. Indications for use of FDG-PET/CT imaging in oesophagogastric malignancy include staging/restaging of patients suitable for radical treatment, including patients who have received neoadjuvant treatment. It also may be indicated in suspected recurrence, when other imaging is negative or equivocal, as biological changes in the tumour usually precede morphological changes. FDG PET-CT has a limited role in T stage, some use in detecting nodal disease and is most useful for evaluating distant metastases.
