Abstract

Patients with end-stage liver disease as well as pancreatic disease are at risk of malnutrition, which can increase risks of adverse consequences of their disease. Careful attention to nutritional risks of these diseases can mitigate risks and improve patient outcomes. Malnutrition due to increased metabolism as well as decreased absorption of nutrients can contribute to higher rates of morbidity and mortality in these patients. This chapter highlights nutritional needs and dietary adjustments specific to patients with end-stage liver disease, as well as acute and chronic disease of the pancreas.
