The Need for Holistic School Leadership

Abstract

School has always been a complex organization. The current chapter claims, however, that today’s school leaders face particularly complex difficulties and high expectations. Among other challenges, they operate in an exigent outcome-based accountability environment and are required to provide students with 21st-century skills. When school leadership becomes more and more complicated, a systems view is necessary. To meet this need, our book will present the Holistic School Leadership approach, whereby educational leaders lead schools through the systems-thinking framework.
