Relationships and Interactions as the Basis of Companies’ Activities

Network Embeddedness

Abstract

Ratajczak-Mrozek discusses the division of interorganizational contacts into interactions and relationships, where interactions and relationships are defined as two distinct states of connections between companies. The analysis includes both interorganizational (business) and personal relationships . The discussion is complemented with an analysis of characteristics that determine relationship quality , including trust, commitment, adaptations, and mutuality. Ratajczak-Mrozek concludes the chapter with a proposal of a complex typology of companies’ relationships. The proposed typology accounts for the division of relationships (and interactions ) in terms of two main dimensions: type (personal and interorganizational) and scope, including territorial scope of activities as well as direct and indirect connections.
