Abstract
The study of blast waves, their generation, propagation and interactions with objects is more than an academic exercise. The importance of the study of blast waves is to understand how blast waves interact with objects, how the objects are loaded by the blast wave and how the blast wave is modified by these interactions. In this chapter I will discuss the roles of blast wave overpressure and dynamic pressure in generating loads on structures and vehicles. The damage caused by these loads is beyond the scope of this text and is the subject of an entire field of study.
