Skin Tumors and Reactions to Cancer Therapy in Children

Abstract

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is an important complication after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in children, and is second only to disease relapse as a cause of death in this population. This chapter reviews the pathophysiology, incidence, clinical features, classification, and treatment of acute and chronic variants of this condition. Unique aspects of acute and chronic GVHD in the pediatric population are highlighted. Lastly, knowledge gaps and potential directions for further research are addressed.
