Abstract

Alfred Eisenstaedt created one of the iconic images of the twentieth century when he captured a sequence of four photographs showing a sailor kissing a woman in white on VJ Day, August 14, 1945, in Times Square, New York City. The second photograph from this series appeared in Life magazine two weeks later and has been reprinted countless times over the last seven decades.
