Abstract

The emergence and widespread use of e-cigarettes have generated a huge debate among scientists, public health personnel and policy makers. Drawing on interviews with a sample of Stop Smoking Advisors and e-cigarettes users in SE England, this chapter discusses some of the ethical issues linked to the contemporary views of nicotine addiction and the use of e-cigarettes as part of the Harm Reduction principle. In view of the principlism framework this chapter reflects on the anti-smoking regulations and discusses the development of e-cigarettes regulations in the United Kingdom (UK). E-cigarettes have established a new entity that might lead to a cultural redefinition of nicotine addiction; thus, challenging attempts to establish an ethical framework for the acceptable use of e-cigarettes.
