Abstract

Blindness affects 36 million people worldwide. The difficulty in creating content accessible to these people, in a matter of time and money, is a hindrance that restricts them from appreciation of artistic materials. This work provides a methodology for the creation of a tool capable of reproducing paintings and photographs on bas-relief surfaces, allowing them to be interpreted by people using the touch. The artwork reconstruction is generated by using triangulation algorithms, texture distortion and a simple and intuitive Graphic User Interface (GUI). This work also presents the creation of a system that implements the methodology in question and is validated by generating bass-relief models of artworks from one of the biggest names in the Brazilian art, Tarsila do Amaral. This work resolves the problem of creating content accessible to the visually impaired quickly and much less costly.
