Abstract

This book is the outcome of several years of research in the interwoven fields of agricultural urbanism and landscape studies. The innovative topic of research is at the heart of an intense and controversial international debate involving several disciplines, such as urbanism, agricultural science, landscape planning/design and geography. It focuses on the interaction between topics, such as agriculture (agricultural and food policies), spatial planning, environmental assessment, urban-rural linkages and farmland preservation, besides urban and peri-urban agricultural practices. Some of these recent studies, but also each scientific exchange or debate with the authors of this book, have defined a firmly grounded preliminary foundation for the editorial project based on the agroecosystem’s heterogeneity, variety and complexity.
