Abstract
Kucharczyk offers deep insights into the lobbying efforts of the Internet industries in Brussels. As the European Union made digital policies and the creation of a Digital Single Market a top priority, the chapter provides background to key legislative files and debates. It explains how policymakers moved from horizontal platform regulation to regulating platforms vertically. Kucharczyk explores the extent to which legislative proposals are a result of interindustry conflicts and which political choices the EU will have to make to achieve a regulatory environment conducive to Internet and Internet-enabled businesses.
