Zusammenfassung
Das Jahr 2000 stellte einen Wendepunkt im Nahostkonflikt dar. Nachdem die Verhandlungsparteien keine substantiellen Verhandlungserfolge erzielen konnten, folgte im Herbst der Ausbruch der „Neuen Intifada“. Die größten Unruhen seit Beginn des Osloer Verhandlungsprozesses verwandelten sich schon bald in einen Low-Intensity-Krieg mit unabsehbarer Dauer. Trotz der Gewalteskalation bemühten sich die Regierungen Arafat, Barak und Clinton bis zum Ende des Jahres um die Rettung des politischen Dialogs.
