Zusammenfassung

Der Militärputsch in Chile am 11. September 1973 – er wurde finanziell und ideologisch durch die sogenannte Operation Condor von den USA unterstützt – zerstörte die chilenische Demokratie; dabei kam der amtierende Präsident Salvador Allende zu Tode. Die demokratisch gewählte sozialistische Partei Unidad Popular wurde durch eine Militärdiktatur unter der Führung von General Augusto Pinochet ersetzt.
