Abstract.
The Information-Technology-Based Laboratory (ITBL) project aims to build a virtual research environment for sharing intellectual resources such as remote computers, programs and data in research institutions and for supporting cooperative studies among researchers throughout Japan. The ITBL infrastructure software forms the basis of its ITBL framework. The application visualization system (AVS)/ITBL is one of core visualization systems on the ITBL system infrastructure software and has been developed based on the existing commercial visualization tool AVS/Express. The AVS/ITBL visualization system enables remote postprocessing visualization of any data stored on any supercomputer located in the ITBL network through Web browsers. In addition, a collaborative visualization function, which refers to researchers in remote locations simultaneously accessing and monitoring the same visualized image, has been developed based on the AVS/ITBL. The global structure as well as the performance of the AVS/ITBL is presented.
