Characterization of ultrashort electron pulses

Abstract

We demonstrate a method for measuring the duration of high-number density femtosecond electron pulses as well as for determining the t=0 position for time resolved diffraction experiments using the laser ponderomotive force. The electron pulse duration of our experimental setup is shown to be just over 400 fs.
