Abstract
The matrix of chemically resistant ferrous materials consists of ferrite, austenite, martensite or a mixture of these phases. They can be divided into three groups based on the precipitation state of the carbon:
- steels containing dissolved carbon or only a small amount of carbides
- steels containing fine secondary carbides
- steels and cast irons containing coarse eutectic precipitates (carbide, graphite)
