Allergische Erkrankungen sowie Asthma bronchiale stellen das häufigste Gesundheitsproblem im Kindes- und Jugendalter dar und können somit für betroffene Patienten und deren Familien zu erheblichen Beeinträchtigungen im alltäglichen Leben führen. Dabei ist das Asthma bronchiale mit ca. 10% die häufigste chronische Erkrankung im Kindesalter, bei wenigstens 70% der Kinder liegt das Manifestationsalter vor dem fünften Lebensjahr (Asher, 2006). Nach Ergebnissen des Kinder- und Jugendgesundheitssurvey (KiGGS) zeigen über 40% der Kinder in Deutschland eine spezifische Sensibilisierung gegenüber einem Allergen. Bei o- bis 17-Jährigen beträgt die berichtete Lebenszeitprävalenz für Neurodermitis 13,1%, für Heuschnupfen 10,5%, für das allergische Kontaktekzem 9,5% und für Asthma bronchiale 4,7% (Schlaud, 2007).
