Abstract

The new treatment approaches in diabetes mellitus target a glycemic control as close to the non-diabetic range, in order to prevent or delay long term complications and to maintain a good quality of life. There is growing evidence in relation to the advantages of insulin pump therapy, which recent came closer than ever to approximating physi ological insulin secretion. The present paper is trying to expose the new features and advantages of the first insulin pump with real-time continuous glucose-monitoring, based on the aquired clinical experience with this device. Due to the glucose monitoring system, doctors or other health profession als can download this information and see the levels in graph or chart form, view patterns in glucose levels, and make adjustments in basal and/or bolus doses as needed. Both clin ical studies and reports from patients have been extremely encouraging. Our patients who have incor porated continuous glucose-sensing tech nology report an increased sense of safety and control, discovering how diet, exercise, medication and lifestyle impact glucose levels, getting real control of their disease.
