Fundamentals of Laser-Material Interactions

  • Chapter
  • First Online:
Laser Processing of Materials

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Materials Science ((SSMATERIALS,volume 139))

Abstract

The following chapter illustrates the basic physical processes occurring during laser-material interaction. It considers fundamentals of electrodynamics in relation to electron–phonon interaction, electromagnetic wave propagation and phase transformations that take place. The theory explains the influence of interaction times and their consequences on heat and material transport.
