Abstract
In this chapter the motivation and need for model integration in the cancer systems biology field is explained. We seek to re-formalise linear integration (in contrast to previous formalisations in the literature) to give a context to the novel model integration strategy developed in this project. A novel agent-based model integration strategy, which strives to solve the cross-paradigm integration challenge, is formalised. Furthermore, a novel knowledge-based approach, which strives to solve the cross-focus, scope and context challenges, is formalised.
