Abstract

The PIP joint is at the heart of hand function. A good range of motion at this joint gives good function even in the presence of metacarpophalangeal joint contractures. It is often affected by Dupuytren’s contractures due to digital fascial involvement and its correction is the key to good hand function – yet can be most difficult to achieve.
