Abstract
Surgical defects of the ear are relatively common and may be due to removal of a skin cancer or due to other trauma. Various surgical options are available to repair the surgical defects of the ear such as wedge excision, local flap surgery (using skin from same anatomical unit), and skin grafting. These do produce a successful outcome, but they invariably cause ears that are smaller postoperatively. The author presents various applications of retroauricular cutaneous advancement flap, a versatile flap, to successfully repair the surgical defects of the ear in its different locations. The soft tissue of the retroauricular region is well vascularized, and the advancement flap of retroauricular skin can be used for a successful and cosmetically satisfying reconstruction of the ear without miniaturizing it.
