Abstract
This chapter discusses the position of Europe in the medium-term future world that is being created. The basic trends that will dominate at a global level are expected to have a direct impact on the determination of the position of Europe in the medium term. These trends concern the social, economic and international developments expected to take place. This chapter presents the basic trends that seem likely to affect the shaping of the world during 2015–2025. It debates the two most probable versions of the future world, and provides some predictions on the position of Europe in this world.
