Abstract

See the chapter “Hip and Pelvis Injuries” for general aspects. Most often caused by a fall in the same plane (low energy fracture) in elderly, osteoporotic patients, but also note the possibility of a malignant aetiology, see section “Pathologic Fracture” below. Be aware of the fact that a hip fracture can manifest itself with pain solely in the knee region, most often radiating anterio-medially! However, it is important to pay attention to the occurrence of stress fractures in collum femoris, which have increased in the last decades and represent about 7 % of all stress fractures in long distance runners.
