Zusammenfassung

Durch erhöhten Alkoholkonsum kommt es sehr häufig zu schwerwiegenden medizinischen und sozialen Folgen (19). Daher ist eine frühzeitige Diagnose und die Einleitung einer adäquaten Therapie anzustreben. Da viele Betroffenen nur sehr ungenaue Angaben bezüglich ihres Alkoholkonsums machen, ist die Diagnose einer Alkoholabhängigkeit und besonders eines Alkoholmißbrauchs oft schwierig. Eine Alkoholabhängigkeit wird von vielen Ärzten nicht erkannt, v. a. wenn schwerwiegende körperliche Erkrankungen oder Verletzungen zur Behandlung bzw. zur stationären Aufnahme führen (25, 37). Verglichen mit den Selbstaussagen anhand von kurzen Fragebögen wird die Diagnose Alkoholismus von den behandelnden Krankenhausärzten in weniger als 50% der Fälle gestellt (25, 37). Besonders niedrig ist die Erkennungsrate von älteren Alkoholkranken (10). Neuere Untersuchungen zeigen, daß Allgemeinärzte, die ihre Patienten langfristig betreuen, den Alkoholkonsum ihrer Klientel besser einschätzen können (17).
