Abstract

The rationale behind our surgical treatment of osteoarthritis of the hip is that of Pauwels and consists of decreasing the load transmitted across the hip joint and above all of enlarging the weight-bearing surface of the articulation. The choice of the proper surgical procedure in each particular case is of decisive importance. Analysis of and tracings from appropriate X-rays are essential in making this choice.
