Abstract
Recent studies involving the major constituent of hashish, Δ1-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) [9,10], in its purified form [14] have provided important information on its pharmacological and biochemical effetcs in general, and at the membrane level in particular. THC is highly lipophilic (the expected partition coefficient, based on a corrected octanol/water partition, is 1200 [16]) and has great affinity for lipoproteins [20]. It does not demonstrate good anesthetic characteristics, and its mode of action on membranes is of a peculiar pattern.
