Abstract
The analysis of cannabis constituents is far advanced. Even after hearing of an interesting new alkaloid, cannabisativine, one may echo Professor Mechoulam’s plea that it may now be time to stop “botanizing,” and concentrate instead on the molecular mechanisms of cannabis action. Yet some important analytic problems remain: the chemical genetics of the plant are still not clear, and we still know too little of the pyrolytic changes produced in smoking. These changes may be different if tobacco is or is not mixed with the cannabis, and they could be important biologically.
