Abstract
A general classification scheme for heterogeneous material concepts in thin film optics is proposed with respect to characteristic size of the inhomogeneity and pursued spectral range. As an example, a subwavelength structured notch filter design procedure is elaborated by combining theoretical tools from gradient index broadband antireflection coating design with resonant grating waveguide theory.
