Abstract

This chapter is intended to categorize and briefly explain delivery pathways to lysosomes and granules in mammalian cells and vacuoles in yeast cells while highlighting a few paradigms. It reflects recent developments in this area of research and covers only a fragment of the vast literature on the biogenesis of the lysosomal/vacuolar apparatus and the specialized sorting principles. The author apologizes to those whose contributions could not be included in this highly focused and brief treatise outlining different vesicular and non-vesicular routes of lysosomal targeting. Because of limited space, secondary literature and reviews are frequently cited and relevant literature on neurovesicles is omitted.
