Abstract

Takyr soils which are widespread in central Asia, can be reclaimed for vegetation or even fruit growing. The Desert Institute researches, and especially those of the Nebitdag Afforestation station, are summarized. The takyr areas best suited for phytoreclamation need to be carefully chosen. Details of the recommended furrow system are given. Comprehensive data is required to estimate the exact size of the furrow a factor of key importance to their success. The furrows accumulate moisture and the precise advantages of this phenomenon are listed.
