Abstract

I am not generally opposed using chemical wastewater treatment, but I am rather critical. The following statements are very much biased and favor biological treatment. I make these statements in the sense of an advocatus diaboli rather than as a statement of my true understanding of the problem. It is obvious to me that a decision whether chemical, biological or combined treatment should be applied is very site specific and cannot be taken based on general statements as made below.
