Abstract

Renal transplantation in the rat is one of the most essential experimental models in transplantation research for several reasons: Many inbred rat strains are defined by their histocompatibility system and are therefore very suitable for immunological investigations (Festing and Staats 1973). Furthermore, in addition to the economic aspects, the fact that rats are available in large numbers and can be handled without problems is important. Experimental questions are thus normally answered in a short time.
