Zusammenfassung

Erhöhter Blutdruck ist der Wert, oberhalb dessen Erkennung und Behandlung mehr nutzt als schadet. Ob der von der WHO als obere Normgrenze festgesetzte Wert von 160/95 mm Hg auch für alte Menschen Gültigkeit hat, soll im folgenden untersucht werden. Als Altersgrenze zur Geriatrie wird teilweise das 60., teilweise das 65. Lebensjahr genannt. Insgesamt erscheint eine biologische Betrachtungsweise sinnvoll, keine Festklammerung an das Geburtsdatum.
