Long-term Prognosis for Patients with Complex Ventricular Arrhythmias of Lown Grades IV a and IV b

Cardiac Arrhythmias

Abstract

It is generally thought that complex ventricular arrhythmias in patients with cardiac disease, especially coronary heart disease, constitute an increased risk of sudden death [5, 7], There is no agreement in the literature, however, on the definition of complex ventricular arrhythmias. Many authors regard Lown grades III (multiform ventricular premature beats), IVa (couplets), and IVb (ventricular tachycardias) as complex ventricular arrhythmias. The prognostic value of this classification, however, is still uncertain, especially for long-term prognosis and with regard to therapeutic response.
