Zusammenfassung
Neue Anwendungsgebiete in der Geologie, beispielsweise die Computeranimation von Orogenese und Epirogenese (“Bewegungen” der Erdoberfläche) im Laufe der Erdgeschichte, machen eine differenzierte Darstellung vorhandener Daten nötig. Einfache Ausgabetechniken wie Drahtrahmen — oder Flächenmodelle, die durch lineare Interpolation der Meßdaten entstehen, sind für diesen Zweck ungeeignet. Naheliegend ist die Anwendung erweiterter scattered data Verfahren zur Darstellung und Modellierung von Flächen.
